CAMERAS OVER THE PACIFIC is a book, recently published, that details the history and the escapades of the US Marine Corps Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron VMD-254
during WWll in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
Researching the historical material for this book included reviewing the squadron War Diaries and engaging in countless interviews with the veterans of VMD-254. It took the author 8 years to assimilate the data and to organize it into a format that would take the reader through the chronological history of the squadrons and their contribution to the successuful victory over the Japanese Empire.
The book contains over 200 pages of photographs, charts and documents, most of which have never been published before.
The author, John G. Bishop, had a personal interest in the writing this book/history. He was named after his fathers nephew, 2nd Lt. John M.J. Bishop USMCR of VMD-254, who was killed in 1944 off Guadalcanal when the Douglas SBD "Dauntless" dive bomber that he was piloting, crashed into the sea.
